TRIBUTE JOAQUÍN COLLADO // Joaquín Collado
Since May 2nd.
URBAN EXHIBITION CIRCUIT – EMT
Like every year, PhotOn Festival pays homage again to historical photojournalists or photodocumentalists from Valencia. In 2017, PhotOn Festival shows the work of Joaquín Collado, banker and great photographer who used his free time to immortalize the life of the old Valencia. Always close to the street and looking for the decisive moment, Collado’s gaze resembles that of the great photographers of the 20th century like Robert Capa, Cartier Bresson or Robert Doisneau.
The photographer Joaquín Collado was born in València, where he still lives, in 1930. He began photography in a self-taught way in 1965 and in his snapshots reflects the urban life of the city of previous decades. The images of Collado have been shown in more than 50 individual and collective exhibitions, among which the Valencian Museum of Illustration and Modernity (MuVIM) stands out as ‘La València olvidada’. Joaquín Collado is a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Carlos. The Valencian Institute of Modern Art (IVAM) recently acquired 28 photographs that Collado did in the neighborhood of Velluters in 1972.
