BIOGRAPHY:
Born in Cordoba in 1959, soon he went to Barcelona with his family to settle in Hospitalet del Infante, a town where his grandfather lived. He began working with just 11 years and combined his education with several jobs. At 15, he worked as a waiter at the beach bar Fina Miracle during the three months of summer. He would come back every summer (until 1990) to save enough to pay for his studies and his first trips. He graduated in journalism from the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 1984.
He has covered as a photojournalist most of the conflicts in Latin America and the Gulf War from 1984 to 1992, after which he went on to cover the war in Bosnia and other conflicts stemming from the fragmentation of the former Yugoslavia. He has also covered various conflicts in Africa and Asia.
He has worked for different media, although it has usually worked as a freelance journalist. Among the newspapers he has worked for spanish “Heraldo de Aragón” (from 1988) and the magazine of La Vanguardia (since 2000); and other media, Cadena SER, the Spanish service of the BBC (since 1994) and Time magazine (since 2000).
He has won several awards, starring in a controversial delivery of one of them, the Ortega y Gasset Journalism, on account of the speech when picked accusing the Government of Spain of weapon sales. He has published several photographic books.
