The war in Northern Uganda began in 1986 and was marked by the brutality of LRA (Lord’s Resistance Army, Christian extremist association) against civilians, including the kidnapping of more than 20,000 children for being used as soldiers and sexual slaves. During those days, the use of lips, ears, noses and genitals mutilations of victims was spread. Future Plans is a first-hand testimony of the survivors of the genocide conducted by the LRA, but also from the Ugandan regular army in this low-level conflict that has gone on for more than 25 years now. The person responsible of this genocide, Joseph Kony, is still being sought by the International Criminal Court. In this exhibition, children who now are men and women tell us what they have lost, and which are their plans for the future. In some cases these future plans have already been met, in other cases they are difficult to meet but they maintain the hope and the desire to keep fighting day after day for recovering something of their past and for constructing their future.
