“EL RIONE SANITÀ”
El “Rione Sanità” fue construido en el siglo XVI, en una cantera utilizada como lugar de enterramiento durante la época greco-romana; el fuerte vínculo entre los habitantes y la muerte es uno de los rasgos distintivos del barrio, como lo atestiguan los numerosos lugares de culto, que nació como lugar de residencia de las familias aristocráticas y se ha convertido en uno de los barrios más pobres de Nápoles gracias a la construcción del “Ponte Sanità” (más tarde llamado “Ponte Maddalena Cerasuolo”). El puente ha excluido al barrio de la vida de la ciudad, creando un gueto en el corazón de la misma. Este aislamiento, agravado por la falta de políticas de integración y desarrollo, ha llevado a la proliferación de diversos problemas sociales como el desempleo, la deserción escolar, la presencia de organizaciones criminales y, al mismo tiempo, el distrito ha mantenido su identidad. Entre los habitantes del “Rione Sanità” ha crecido un fuerte sentido de pertenencia que sólo la modernidad ha arañado en la superficie. El distrito acoge a una vasta humanidad con diferentes orígenes geográficos y diferentes historias personales. Esta diversidad es una riqueza. No sólo hay marginalidad, sino también una vitalidad extraordinaria; un patrimonio histórico artístico de gran importancia, habilidades humanas e interpersonales, de muy alto nivel. Mi proyecto se centra en la vida del Rione en su pliegue íntimo y dulce. Los rasgos en blanco y negro de una humanidad perennemente dolorosa salen de la sombra mostrando intensas relaciones de amor, mis imágenes quieren devolver lo mejor de esa carne que también puede ser bestial. El “Rione Sanità” es soledad y amor, ironía y tragedia, fe y pecado. Los contrastes generan existencias surrealistas. La calle y la casa se funden, lo privado se hace público y lo público esconde los secretos de lo privado. El silencio es un raro regalo para estos callejones, pero en su revelación redescubres el alma desnuda e inmensa de una humanidad olvidada.
The “Rione Sanità” was built in the 16th century,in a quarry used as a burial place during the Greco-Roman period.The strong link between inhabitants and death is one of the distinctive features of the neighborhood, as witnessed by the many places of worship.The district, born as a residence place for aristocratic families, has become one of the poorest district in Naples due to the construction of the “Ponte Sanità” (later called “Ponte Maddalena Cerasuolo”). The bridge has excluded the neighborhood from the life of the city,creating a ghetto in the heart of it. This isolation, exacerbated by lack of integration and development policies, has led to the proliferation of various social problems such as unemployment,school drop-out, presence of criminal organizations.At the same time, the district has retained its identity. Among the inhabitants of the “Rione Sanità” has grown a strong sense of belonging only scratched on the surface by modernity. The district welcomes a vast humanity with different geographical origins and different personal stories. This diversity is a wealth. There is not only marginality, but also an extraordinary vitality; an artistic historical heritage of considerable importance, human and interpersonal skills, of a very high level. My project focuses on the Rione’s life in its intimate and sweet fold. The black and white features of a perennially painful humanity come out of the shadow showing intense relationships of love.My images want giving back the best part of that meat that can also be bestial. The “Rione Sanità” is solitude and love, irony and tragedy, faith and sin. The contrasts generate surreal existences. The street and the house merge together, the private becomes public and the public hides the secrets of the private. Silence is a rare gift for these alleys, but in its revelation you rediscover the naked and immense soul of a forgotten humanity.
