In 2017, for the first time at the Photon Festival, the Best Photojournalist of the Year Award was announced. This award seeks to highlight the value of the constant work carried out by photojournalists in the Valencian Community.
In 2017 the winner of this award, sponsored by the City Council of Valencia from the Department of Media Relations, went to Miguel Lorenzo.
Miguel Lorenzo presented fifty-eight images made for the Periódico de Catalunya, InfoUniversidad, Periòdic digital of the Universitat of Valencia and El Temps.
The work presented was divided into different thematic sections that covered, according to his own words, the passion and death of Rita Barbera, a year of governments of change, the victory of the victims of the Metro, the poor reception of refugees, the second round of elections in 2016, big and small stories that fill the pages of daily newspapers and portraits of the faces of the year.
