CONFERENCE ANDONI LUBAKI
AULA MAGNA . CENTRE CULTURAL LA NAU
In “A convulsed world”, the particular gaze of Andoni Lubaki (Urretxu, 1982), covers five of the most important “living” armed conflicts of the last decade. A brief reminder of the refugee population movements leads us directly to the horror of the frontline combat against the Islamic State in Mosul, ambushes in the old city of Aleppo, in Libya or in the cold Dombass in Ukraine. Snipers, blood and civilians, action and death. Lubaki masterfully reflects the tense atmospheres of combat and moments of relaxation.
His work, never exhibited in the Valencian Community, gives us 78 images that aim to raise awareness among an audience of any age and make him reflect on violence and war in a close and contemporary context.
For Lubaki, with only 6 years of experience in professional photography, the Libyan War was the baptism of fire as a war reporter and the place where he had the opportunity to work alongside the rebel army that took over Colonel Gaddafi’s command. A year later he walked the streets of Aleppo covering the war as an AP stringer (Associated Press).
